Route 66 - Part XII

Hi there

     It was a bright sunny day .As we gather for the morning brief I saw Richard covering his face with bandana. Upon enquiry we found out that a wasp had stung him yesterday while we were reaching the hotel and his face had  got swollen.

    We were  back on the mega highway. In spite of  being early morning, traffic had increased on the road due to movement of huge trucks.The beauty of American highway discipline is, no one will get into your lane .The truck drivers generally keep distance from bikes and few of them also blew horn in happiness as they saw group of bikes .It was a pleasurable ride.

  

   The main destination today was to ride on the iconic Hoover Dam.We cleared the security at the Hoover Dam entrance along with the bikes and off we rode on the Mesmerizing Hoover Dam which is life line of LA and Las Vegas.It was such a wonderful feeling as people saw us they waved at us clicked photos and few wanted us to twist the throttle to hear to the loud sound of exhaust off course we obliged.

   After riding for some distance we came at the main view point ,from here one can see the complete  dam also there are viewing telescope too -off course for few pennies.

  After the view point we rode to another attraction which is important and connected with the dam, it is lake Mead.It is basically a view point overlooking the lake and has no historical value, but the way it has been made tourist friendly-it has a bio toilet,waste paper basket and very good information boards,there are no hagglers selling art facts or beggars.It was full of tourist but absolutely clean.Hats off to American tourist department.

    After getting down the Hoover dam it was time for  lunch .This time we were taken to a all you can eat pizza hut .Excellent Pizza's and best part was service all people serving were smiling.I use to avoid lunch but today the Pizza's were tempting and  just dug into them.

    After the sumptuous lunch we were back on  highway and this time we were going to Las Vegas on our motorcycles!! !As we reached our destination before time and hotel was not ready with rooms we had to stop at the Las Vegas HD .Again an excellent dealership located  right next to the International airport and one can see the take off and landing very easily.

   As we reached the hotel it was time for briefing by Richard and he briefed us right on the foot path of the hotel.His briefing as usual was crisp ,to the point and always gave veg options especially for me.Also this was a sad day for all of us as we had to say good by to Thorstein and Belinda from Germany, as their tour got over in Las Vegas.It was such a pleasure to ride along such riders, hope to ride with them again.

   The continuous riding  had led to fatigue and I crashed on the bed for a good afternoon siesta.

    Early evening I came out of  tour hotel Golden Nugget hotel located on the  Fremont street.I was seeing Fremont street  for the first time. I have only seen it either in movies or youtube videos,it is stupendous.

    Length wise it is short walk but the way attractions have been created along it makes it one of the kind in the world one has to visit it to believe it and don't miss the night show.

  There is a shopping complex called container park ,were in all shops /eating joints are located inside used shipping containers!!

   By evening the same street had transformed into mind boggling entertainment arena,marvelous.I was roaming on the street till it was closing time,such a refreshing and energizing break.

    As I was roaming on the street I came across a unique phenomena, were in people had gather around a  huge American flag.I asked policeman standing by and he told me this flag is being folded and any one can join in it-basically a photo was being taken,what a national spirit.

    In night there was small party in the hotel lobby were in I was not there since I was damn tired and some one put this around Shane!!!  

  Good night Las Vegas ,the new day will be the second last day of the tour.
