Route 66 - Part VI

 Hi
   There
It was a great day to start the ride ,it was cold in the morning and I had to wear the warm gloves. After a refueling stop it was back on the highway. After a short ride we halted at a place for tea, this place had the last remaining original washroom,it has been preserved now.

Thereafter it was time for another historic motorcycle museum at Clinton,Oklahoma. The museum has six decades of route 66 history from iconic idea of initial highway to recollection of experience travelers had on the route. There is an entry fee to the museum, extremely well kept and runs a small movie on the history of route 66 too.

Brief break of the gang

By the time we left the museum it was time for another lunch at an fantastic place .

It was time to move ahead this time we were crossing into another state-Texas.The first halt was at the famous Texas state line sign-surprisingly it is very small as contrary to the culture in Texas is -because in Texas every thing is big.

The next stop was at U drop Inn featured in the movie Cars, another neatly restored place. The U drop inn and Conoco tower were build in 1936 by James M Tindall and R C Lewis,it was designed by John Nunn.It changed hands and closed down in 1997.Thereafter Shamrock city restored the place and it was again open in July 2003.

The next stop was a unique museum-The Barbed wire or Devils rope museum museum Can you imagine a museum for barbed wires!!!! but once you go inside you travel through not only history of barbed wire, its use but also history of ranching in USA.

The first practical "barbed wire" invention came from Michael Kelly of New York in 1868.  His design allowed factory manufacture.  Barbed wire as we know it today, came from the mind of Joseph F. Glidden of DeKalb, Illinois in 1874.  He improvised with various modifications until he came up with a design that would withstand years of court litigation earning him the title of "The Father of Barbed Wire.Located at Mclean Texas it opened in 1991.

It has art works made using barbed wire too!!!Very unique experience dont miss it if on route 66.

We were back on the windy highway and again the wind was pushing the bike ,on top of it huge trucks were going past was making me ride the bike difficult, however it also gave me the opportunity to practice lessons given by other riders .

After reaching the hotel  in Amarillo,it was time for debriefing by Ricahrd. For dinner the place chosen was  Big Texas Steak ranch. However
I was too exhausted and I declined to join the gang for the dinner.Richard guided me to two nearby dinners which will serve veg food, but I just wanted to rest.
